The School of Electronic Engineering was established in December 2014, and was formed by the readjustment of some disciplines of the former School of Engineering and the School of Science. On November 5, 2019, the School of Artificial Intelligence was founded, which is co-located with the School of Electronic Engineering. The School of Electronic Engineering has the Department of Artificial Intelligence, the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, the Department of Communication Engineering, the Department of Electronic Science and Technology, the Department of Applied Physics and an Experimental Center.

 

Currently, there are 94 teaching staff, including 97 full-time teachers. /the number of staff and faculty is 94, of whom 80 are full-time teachers. The school now has 2100 students and 97 are graduates. Among the strong teaching faculty, there are 1 fellow of the European Academy of Sciences in France, 1 foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, 1 leading talent in Guangdong province, 1 members of Guangdong Outstanding Teacher, 2 winners of the Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in Guangdong Province, 2 Guangdong Higher Education Institutions Outstanding Young Teachers, 1 winner of the Zhujiang Science and Technology New Star Award, and 2 Ding Ying chair professors. The school has sent 19 young and middle-aged teachers to study abroad, and there are more than 30 visits of academic exchanges. At present, there are 7 supervisors for doctoral students, 27 supervisors for master's students, 9 staff with senior titles and 37 with deputy senior titles.

 

In the past five years, the school has continuously explored the talent training/cultivation system, adjusted and optimized the enrollment mode of major categories and talent cultivation scheme. Under these efforts, 5 teaching teams such as Electricity Specialties Basic Course Groups was established, 2 outstanding open classes of Guangdong Province and 5 school-level high-quality resource sharing courses were developed, and 9 new practice bases for off-campus undergraduate teaching practice were founded. The school has participated 1 provincial project,  6 provincial projects of teaching reform and quality development, 27 school-level projects, 2 special projects of central financial support for the development of local universities, 1 project of virtual reality laboratory and 1 special project of laboratory information construction. So far the school has won 6 school-level teaching achievement awards; there are 7 teaching materials published and 4 provincial planning materials that are written by our teachers who also  published 24 papers on teaching reform.

 

In the past five years, 7 research teams have been built in the school, including Nanoelectronical Materials, Devices and Applications. Additionally, there are 2 national platforms which consists of the National Joint Research Center for Precision Agricultural and Aviation Medicine Application Technology and the Wisdom Base for the Construction of Precision Agricultural and Aviation Discipline (111 Wisdom Base). And there are 8 provincial and municipal teaching and research platforms, including the Guangdong Agricultural Information Monitoring Engineering Technology Research Center, Guangdong Modern Pig Farming Data Engineering Technology Research Center, Guangdong Key Laboratory for Teaching Electronic Information Engineering in Higher Schools, Guangdong Physical Experiment Teaching and Learning Demonstration Center, Guangzhou Key Laboratory for Agricultural Information Acquisition and Application. 11 national level projects were approved, including 9 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 38 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and 23 other projects, with a scientific research fund of more than 30 million yuan. Scientific research achievements won 4 second prizes and 1 third prize of Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Technology Promotion Award, 3 third prizes of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award, 30 authorized invention patents and 83 computer software copyright, and published more than 60 papers included in ESI. Among them, the papers published by the professor's research group in IEEE Communications Magazine (impact factor 10.435), a top journal in the field of communications, have set a new record for the highest impact factor of the university's engineering and technology papers. 

 

Over the past five years, nearly 1 million yuan has been invested to build brand activities such as Electronic Design Competition, Physical Experiment Competition, Artificial Intelligence Competition, and to support and cultivate innovation and entrepreneurship projects for college students. Students won 16 national prizes, 79 provincial prizes, 40 patent application software works, 48 published papers, including 13 SCI papers and 2 EI papers. A total of 12 outstanding innovation and entrepreneurship teams have been cultivated, and they have won one silver award in the Youth Creation National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, one gold award and two silver awards in the Guangdong College Student Entrepreneurship Competition. Zhu Ya, a student graduated in 2012, has founded Guangzhou Chuanglong Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. and has become an excellent representative of the industry. In order to actively cultivate innovative application-oriented talents in science and engineering, the college has cooperated with enterprises and invested more than 400,000 yuan to build the college's innovation and entrepreneurship studio Mass Innovation Space in Building 10 of students' dormitory area in Huashan. There are more than 20 province-level and university-level off-campus teaching bases, including one off-campus practice education base for college students in Guangdong Province and one demonstration base for jointly training postgraduates in Guangdong Province. 

 

In the past five years, the number of students with GPA of 3.5 or above has reached 54.7%, and 26 students have won the university's model leading commendation. Zhang Honghai, a student graduated in 2018, has participated in the university's overseas research project of Helping Dreams Set Sail. Wang Jian, a 2017 graduate student, won the title of Excellent Graduate Student of Guangdong Province and was sponsored by China Scholarship Council to study in Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Cai Zhuxuan, an undergraduate in 2020, won the title of Excellent Student Cadre of Guangdong Province in 2019-2020 (only 4 students in SCAU). The overall employment rate of college graduates comes out among the best in SCAU, and the employment competitiveness of graduates has gradually enhanced.
